I Timothy 2:5

For there is one God, and one mediator between God and men, the man Christ Jesus

Charles Gabriel, one of the great American hymnwriters of the 1800s, used this thought as a cause for rejoicing in his hymn “The Great Mediator” (full lyrics and sheet music here):

There’s a joyful message written in His word—
Jesus is the great Mediator;
To the soul the sweetest music ever heard—
Jesus is the great Mediator.

I will praise Him, I will praise Him,
For I love to sing the story
How His love has made me whole;
Hallelujah! hallelujah!
He’s the Saviour and Redeemer of my soul.
