Our great Example and our Head

Verse 1
Our great Example and our Head
Before us goes to mortal pain:
Shall we not in his footsteps tread,
His sufferings and his cross sustain,
Offer our souls in sacrifice,
And die where our Redeemer dies?

Verse 2
Expos’d to all temptations here,
From conquering we to conquer go,
By Jesus led disdain to fear,
When grapling with our latest foe;
We trample death beneath our feet;
And then our vict’ory is compleat.
