Our Master doth with sinners eat,
To satisfy our wants,
To fill our souls with heavenly meat,
And change us into saints:
Sinners He kindly doth receive,
That nourish’d by his love
On earth we without sin may live,
And share his feast above.
Our Master doth with sinners eat
Hymnal/Album: Originally titled: “‘Why eateth your Master with publicans and sinners?’—[Matt. 9,] v. 11.” Wesley originally published the last four lines of this hymn in his 1762 hymnal "Short Hymns on Select Passages of the Holy Scriptures, Vol. 2" (Bristol: Farley, 1762). The hymn’s title there was “Sinners our Master doth receive.” He later added the first four lines in his unpublished 1766 manuscript “MS Matthew.” This manuscript is part of the collection of the Methodist Archive and Research Centre in The John Rylands Library, The University of Manchester (accession number MA 1977/577, Charles Wesley Notebooks Box 3). Osborn, Vol. 10 (London: Wesleyan-Methodist Conference Office, 1870), page 223.
