The publicans may still draw near

The publicans may still draw near
To God’s incarnate Son,
Join’d to his followers appear,
And sit with Jesus down:
The house, the church, will all contain,
The meanest and the least,
And every sinful child of man
May be his Saviour’s guest.

Hymnal/Album: Originally titled: “‘As Jesus sat at meat in the house, behold many publicans and sinners came, and sat down with him and his disciples.’—[Matt. 9,] v. 10.” This hymn appears in the 1766 manuscript “MS Matthew.” This manuscript is part of the collection of the Methodist Archive and Research Centre in The John Rylands Library, The University of Manchester (accession number MA 1977/577, Charles Wesley Notebooks Box 3).
