Thrice solemn, thrice repeated word

Thrice solemn, thrice repeated word,
For all who at thy bar are cast!
Most merciful, most righteous Lord,
Thy justice, as thy grace, shall last:
But all that now invoke thy name,
That trust thy bleeding sacrifice,
Shall flee with us the quenchless flame,
Shall ’scape the worm that never dies.

Hymnal/Album: Originally titled “Their worm dieth not, and the fire is not quenched.”—[Mark] ix. 48. Introduced in Charles Wesley, Short Hymns on Select Passages of the Holy Scriptures, Vol. 2 (Bristol: Farley, 1762). Published in The Poetical Works of John and Charles Wesley, Collected and Arranged by G. Osborn, Vol. 11 (London: Wesleyan-Methodist Conference Office, 1871), page 29.
