Asleep in Jesus

Verse 1
Asleep in Je­sus! Bless­èd sleep, (I Thess. 4:14-15)
From which none ev­er wakes to weep;
A calm and un­dis­turbed re­pose,
Unbroken by the last of foes. (I Cor. 15:26)

Asleep in Je­sus! Oh, how sweet,
To be for such a slum­ber meet,
With ho­ly con­fi­dence to sing
That death has lost his ven­omed sting! (I Cor. 15:55-57)

Verse 3
Asleep in Je­sus! Peace­ful rest,
Whose wak­ing is su­preme­ly blessed; (Rev. 14:13)
No fear, no woe, shall dim that hour
That ma­ni­fests the Sav­ior’s pow­er. (John 5:28-29)

Verse 4
Asleep in Je­sus! Oh, for me
May such a bless­èd re­fuge be!
Securely shall my ash­es lie
And wait the su­mmons from on high. (I Thess. 4:16)

Verse 5
Asleep in Je­sus! time nor space
Debars this pre­cious hid­ing place; (Ps. 32:7, Ps. 119:114, Rom. 8:38-39)
On In­di­an plains or Lap­land snows
Believers find the same re­pose.

Verse 6
Asleep in Je­sus! Far from thee
Thy kin­dred and their graves may be;
But there is still a bless­èd sleep,
From which none ev­er wakes to weep.
