Away With Our Sorrow and Fear

Verse 1
Away my unbelieving fear!
Fear shall in me no more have place; (II Tim. 1:7)
My Saviour doth not yet appear, (Col. 3:4)
He hides the brightness of his face: (Ps. 27:9, Isa. 45:15)
But shall I therefore let him go,
And basely to the tempter yield? (I Cor. 10:13, James 1:12)
No, in the strength of Jesus, no!
I never will give up my shield. (Eph. 6:16)

Verse 2
(Hab. 3:17-18)
Altho’ the vine its fruit deny,
Altho’ the olive yield no oil,
The withering fig-tree droop and die,
The field elude the tiller’s toil, (Joel 1:10-12)
The empty stall no herd afford,
And perish all the bleating race,
Yet will I triumph in the Lord, (Phil. 3:1, Phil. 4:4)
The God of my salvation praise. (Hab. 3:17-18, Ps. 18:46)

Verse 3
Barren altho’ my soul remain,
And no one bud of grace appear,
No fruit of all my toil and pain, (John 15:2)
But sin, and only sin is here; (Rom. 7:18)
Altho’ my gifts, and comforts lost, (Phil. 3:8-9)
My blooming hopes cut off I see,
Yet will I in my Saviour trust,
And glory, that he died for me. (Gal. 6:14)

Verse 4
In hope believing against hope, (Rom. 4:18)
Jesus my Lord and God I claim,
Jesus my strength shall lift me up, (Phil. 4:13)
Salvation is in Jesu’s name: (Acts 4:12)
To me he soon shall bring it nigh,
My soul shall then outstrip the wind,
On wings of love mount up on high, (Isa. 40:31)
And leave the world, and sin behind.
