Lyrics

Verse 1
Come, ye thankful people, come,
Raise the song of harvest-home!
All is safely gathered in,
Ere the winter storms begin:
God our Maker doth provide
For our wants to be supplied; (Phil. 4:19)
Come to God’s own temple, come,
Raise the song of harvest-home!

Verse 2
We ourselves are God’s own field, (I Cor. 3:9)
Fruit unto His praise to yield; (Phil. 1:11)
Wheat and tares together sown (Matt. 13:24-30)
Unto joy or sorrow grown.
First the blade and then the ear, (Mark 4:28)
Then the full corn shall appear;
Grant, O Harvest Lord, that we
Wholesome grain and pure may be.

Verse 3
For the Lord our God shall come,
And shall take His harvest home; (Rev. 14:15)
From His field shall purge away
All that doth offend that day: (Matt. 13:41)
Give His angels charge at last (Matt. 13:39)
In the fire the tares to cast; (Matt. 3:12, Luke 3:17, Matt. 13:42)
But the fruitful ears to store
In His garner evermore. (Matt. 3:12, Luke 3:17)

Verse 4
Then, thou Church triumphant, come,
Bring the song of harvest-home;
All are safely gathered in,
Free from sorrow, free from sin, (Rev. 21:4, Isa. 35:10, Isa. 51:11)
There, for ever purified, (Eph. 5:27, I Cor. 3:13-15)
In God’s garner to abide;
Come, ten thousand angels, come,
Raise the glorious harvest-home!
