Eternal Father! Strong to Save

Eternal Fa­ther, strong to save,
Whose arm hath bound the rest­less wave, (Job 38:8-11)
Who bidd’st the migh­ty ocean deep
Its own ap­point­ed lim­its keep; (Jer. 5:22, Prov. 8:29, Ps. 104:9)
Oh, hear us when we cry to Thee,
For those in per­il on the sea! (Ps. 107:23-28)

O Christ! Whose voice the wa­ters heard
And hushed their rag­ing at Thy Word, (Matt. 8:27, Mark 4:41, Luke 8:25)
Who walked up­on the foam­ing deep, (Matt. 14:25, Mark 6:48, John 6:19)
And calm amidst its rage didst sleep; (Matt. 8:24, Mark 4:38, Luke 8:23)
Oh, hear us when we cry to Thee,
For those in per­il on the sea!

Verse 3
Most Holy Spir­it! Who didst brood
Upon the cha­os dark and rude, (Gen. 1:2)
And bid its ang­ry tu­mult cease, (Ps. 65:7)
And give, for wild con­fu­sion, peace; (I Cor. 14:33)
Oh, hear us when we cry to Thee,

Verse 4
O Tri­ni­ty of love and pow­er!
Our fa­mi­ly shield in dan­ger’s hour;
From rock and tem­pest, fire and foe, (Isa. 43:2)
Protect us where­so­e’er we go; (Ps. 121:7-8)
Thus ev­er­more shall rise to Thee
Glad hymns of praise from land and sea.
