Father of Jesus Christ, my Lord, my Saviour

Verse 1
Father of Jesus Christ my Lord, (II Cor. 1:3, Eph. 1:3, I Pet. 1:3)
My Saviour, and my head, (I Cor. 11:3, Eph. 1:22-23, Col. 1:18)
I trust in thee, whose powerful word
Hath rais’d him from the dead. (Rom. 4:24, Eph. 1:19-20, I Pet. 1:21)

Verse 2
Thou know’st for my offence he died,
And rose again for me,
Fully and freely justified, (Rom. 4:25, Rom. 3:24, Rom. 5:9)
That I might live to thee. (Rom. 6:10-11, II Cor. 5:15, Gal. 2:19)

Verse 3
Eternal life to all mankind
Thou hast in Jesus given, (John 3:16, Rom. 6:23, I John 5:11-12)
And all who seek, in him shall find
The happiness of heaven. (Jer. 29:13, Matt. 7:7-8, Col. 3:1-2)

Verse 4
All nations of the earth are blest
In him, who would restore, (Gen. 12:3, Gen. 18:18, Gen. 22:18, Gen. 26:4, Acts 3:25-26, Gal. 3:8)
And take them all into his rest, (Matt. 11:28-29, Heb. 4:9-11)
And bid them sin no more. (John 5:14, John 8:11)

Verse 5
O God, thy record I receive, (I John 5:9-11)
In Abraham’s footsteps tread, (Rom. 4:12)
And wait, expecting to receive
The Christ, the promis’d seed. (Gal. 3:16, Gal. 3:19)

Verse 6
The word is now gone forth from thee,
It must, it must be done, (Num. 23:19, Isa. 45:23, Isa. 55:11)
My Jesus shall be form’d in me, (Gal. 4:19)
And I shall have a Son. (Gen. 18:10, Gen. 18:14, Rom. 9:9)

Verse 7
Faith in thy power thou seest I have,
For thou this faith hast wrought,
Dead souls thou callest from their grave, (John 5:25, Rom. 4:17, Eph. 2:1)
And speakest worlds from nought. (Heb. 11:3)

Verse 8
Things that are not as tho’ they were,
Thou callest by their name, (Rom. 4:17)
Present with thee the future are, (Isa. 46:9-10)
With thee the great I AM. (Ex. 3:14, John 8:58)

Verse 9
In hope against all human hope
Self-desp’rate I believe, (Rom. 4:18-21)
Thy quick’ning word shall raise me up, (John 5:21, Rom. 4:17, Eph. 2:1, Eph. 2:4-6)
Thou shalt thy Spirit give. (Luke 11:13, Rom. 8:11, Gal. 3:14)

Verse 10
According to thy faithful word
It shall to me be done, (Luke 1:38)
And I shall soon receive my Lord,
And I shall have a Son. (Luke 1:31-32)

Verse 11
Regardless now of flesh and blood, (Rom. 4:19)
Of my forlorn estate,
I own my soul is dead to God, (Eph. 2:1, Eph. 2:5, Col. 2:13)
Yet for the word I wait. (Ps. 119:74, Ps. 119:81, Ps. 119:114, Ps. 130:5, Rom. 4:17, Heb. 11:12)

Verse 12
I count not now the tedious years
I have been dead in sin, (Eph. 2:1, Eph. 2:5, Col. 2:13)
But calmly wait till Christ appears, (Col. 3:4)
Till Jesus lives within. (Gal. 2:20)

Verse 13
The thing surpasses all my thought, (I Cor. 2:9, Eph. 3:19, Phil. 4:7)
But faithful is my Lord, (I Cor. 1:9, I Thess. 5:24, II Thess. 3:3, Heb. 10:23, Heb. 11:11)
Thro’ unbelief I stagger not, (Rom. 4:20)
For God hath spoke the word. (Num. 23:19, Rom. 4:21)

Verse 14
Faith, mighty faith the promise sees,
And looks to that alone, (Rom. 4:18, Rom. 4:20-21, II Cor. 5:7, Heb. 11:1)
Laughs at impossibilities, (Gen. 17:17, Gen. 18:12-14)
And cries, It shall be done.

Verse 15
To thee the glory of thy power,
And faithfulness I give, (Rom. 4:20)
I shall in Christ, at that glad hour,
And Christ in me shall live. (Gal. 2:20)

Verse 16
Before thee I my heart persuade,
I know that thou art true, (John 3:33, Rom. 3:4)
Fully assur’d what thou hast said,
Thou able art to do. (Rom. 4:21)

Verse 17
Thy truth, and power, and love I plead,
On this I rest secure,
To all of faithful Abraham’s seed
The gracious word is sure. (Rom. 4:11-12, Rom. 4:16, Gal. 3:7, Gal. 3:9, Gal. 3:29)

Verse 18
Thy Son thou hast on all bestow’d, (John 3:16)
That all who him receive (John 1:12)
Might die to sin, and live to God, (Rom. 6:2, Rom. 6:10-11, Gal. 2:19, I Pet. 2:24)
To God alone might live. (Rom. 14:7-8, II Cor. 5:15)

Verse 19
I, even I believe in him, (John 3:16, John 3:36, Acts 16:31)
Him with my mouth confess, (Rom. 10:9-10, Phil. 2:11)
And faith I know in thy esteem
Is counted righteousness. (Gen. 15:6, Rom. 4:3, Rom. 4:5, Rom. 4:9, Rom. 4:22, Gal. 3:6, James 2:23)

Verse 20
Obedient faith that waits on thee (Ps. 25:3, Isa. 49:23)
Thou never wilt reprove,
But thou wilt form thy Son in me, (Gal. 4:19)
And perfect me in love. (I John 4:12, I John 4:17-18)
