From Greenland's Icy Mountains

Verse 1
From Green­land’s icy mount­ains,
From In­dia’s cor­al strand;
Where Af­ric’s sun­ny fount­ains
Roll down their gold­en sand:
From ma­ny an an­cient river,
From ma­ny a pal­my plain,
They call us to de­liv­er (Acts 16:9)
Their land from er­ror’s chain!

Verse 2
What though the spi­cy breez­es
Blow soft o’er Ja­va’s isle;
Though ev­ery pros­pect pleas­es,
And on­ly man is vile:
In vain with lav­ish kind­ness
The gifts of God are strown;
The hea­then, in his blind­ness,

Verse 3
Can we, whose souls are light­ed
With wis­dom from on high, (James 3:17)
Can we to men be­night­ed
The lamp of life de­ny? (Job 33:10, John 8:12)
Salvation! oh sal­va­tion!
The joy­ful sound pro­claim, (Ps. 89:15)
Till earth’s re­mot­est na­tion (Ps. 2:8)
Has learned Mes­si­ah’s name! (Matt. 28:19-20, Mark 16:15)

Verse 4
Waft, waft, ye winds, His sto­ry,
And you, ye wa­ters, roll
Till, like a sea of glo­ry,
It spreads from pole to pole; (Isa. 11:9, Hab. 2:14)
Till o’er our ran­somed na­ture
The Lamb for sin­ners slain, (Rev. 5:12, I Pet. 1:18-19)
Redeemer, king, cre­at­or,
In bliss re­turns to reign!
