I Heard the Voice of Jesus Say

Verse 1
I heard the voice of Je­sus say,
Come un­to Me and rest; (Matt. 11:28)
Lay down, thou wea­ry one, lay down
Thy head up­on My breast. (John 13:23, John 21:20)
I came to Je­sus as I was,
Weary and worn and sad;
I found in Him a rest­ing place, (Matt. 11:28)
And He has made me glad. (Ps. 92:4)

Verse 2
I heard the voice of Je­sus say,
Behold, I free­ly give
The liv­ing wa­ter; thirs­ty one, (John 4:10-14, Rev. 21:6)
Stoop down, and drink, and live. (Isa. 55:1, John 7:37)
I came to Je­sus, and I drank
Of that life giv­ing stream; (Rev. 22:1-2, Rev. 22:17)
My thirst was quenched, my soul re­vived,
And now I live in Him.

Verse 3
I heard the voice of Je­sus say,
I am this dark world’s light; (John 1:4-5, John 8:12, John 9:5)
Look un­to Me, thy morn shall rise, (Isa. 45:22, Isa. 60:19-20, Heb. 12:2)
And all thy day be bright.
I looked to Je­sus, and I found
In Him my star, my sun; (Mal. 4:2)
And in that light of life I’ll walk, (Job 33:30, John 8:12)
Till tra­vel­ing days are done.

Verse 4
I heard the voice of Je­sus say,
My Fa­ther’s house ab­ove
Has ma­ny man­sions; I’ve a place
Prepared for you in love. (John 14:2-3)
I trust in Je­sus—in that house,
According to His word,
Redeemed by grace, my soul shall live (Eph. 2:5, Eph. 2:8)
Forever with the Lord. (I Thess. 4:17, Rev. 21:3)
