Lyrics

Verse 1
I know that my Redeemer lives, (Job 19:25)
And ever prays for me: (Rom. 8:34, Heb. 7:25)
A token of his love he gives,
A pledge of liberty. (II Cor. 1:22, II Cor. 3:17, II Cor. 5:5)

Verse 2
I find him lifting up my head, (Ps. 3:3, Ps. 27:6)
He brings salvation near, (Isa. 46:13)
His presence makes me free indeed, (John 8:36)
And he will soon appear. (Rev. 22:20)

Verse 3
With confidence I now look up,
His promis’d aid implore, (I John 5:14)
Sweetly revives my blasted hope,
And I can doubt no more.

Verse 4
Far spent is the Egyptian night (Ex. 10:21-23, Rom. 13:12)
Of fear, and pain, and grief,
And lo! I see the morning light
That brings assur’d relief.

Verse 5
The dreadful, dire, oppressive hour
Of tyrant-sin is past, (Rom. 6:6, Rom. 6:12-14)
My soul defies its rage and power,
My soul on Christ is cast. (Ps. 22:10)

Verse 6
The power of hell, the strength of sin
My Jesus shall subdue, ( I Cor. 15:55-57, I John 3:8, Rev. 1:18)
His healing blood shall make[1] me clean, (I John 1:7, Rev. 1:5)
And make my spirit new. (Ps. 51:10, Ezek. 11:19, Ezek. 36:26)

Verse 7
He will perform the work begun: (Phil. 1:6)
Jesus, the sinner’s friend, (Matt. 11:19, Luke 7:34, Luke 15:2)
Jesus, the lover of his own,
Will love me to the end. (John 13:1)

Verse 8
No longer am I now afraid;
The promise must take place,
Perfect his strength in weakness made,
Sufficient is his grace. (II Cor. 12:9)

Verse 9
Unto salvation kept I am,
Thro’ faith, by power divine, (I Pet. 1:5)
Ready his nature, with his name (Rev. 3:12, Rev. 22:4)
To be reveal’d in mine. (Rom. 8:29, II Cor. 3:18)

Verse 10
He wills that I should holy be: (Eph. 1:4, I Pet. 1:15-16)
Who can withstand his will? (II Chron. 20:6, Dan. 4:35, Rom. 9:19)
The counsel of his grace in me
He surely shall fulfil. (Ps. 33:11, Isa. 46:10, Eph. 1:11)

Verse 11
Confident now of faith’s increase, (Luke 17:5, II Cor. 10:15, II Thess. 1:3)
I all its fruits shall prove,
Substantial joy, and settled peace, (Isa. 26:3, Rom. 5:1-2, Rom. 15:13)
And everlasting love. (Jer. 31:3, Gal. 5:22-23)

Verse 12
Yes, Lord, I put my trust in thee, (Ps. 7:1, Ps. 16:1, Ps. 25:2, Ps. 31:1, Ps. 71:1)
On thee my soul I stay; (Isa. 26:3-4)
I know, that thou wilt come to me, (John 14:18, John 14:23)
And I shall see thy day. (Job 19:25-27, John 8:56)

Verse 13
With me, I know, thy Spirit dwells,
Nor ever shall depart, (Isa. 59:21, John 14:16-17, Rom. 8:9, I Cor. 3:16)
Till in me he himself reveals, (John 14:21, Gal. 1:15-16)
And purifies my heart. (Acts 15:8-9)

Verse 14
He tells me, he will quickly come, (Rev. 3:11, Rev. 22:7, Rev. 22:12, Rev. 22:20)
And seal me his abode;
He now marks out his future home,
The temple of my God. (I Cor. 3:16, I Cor. 6:19, II Cor. 6:16, Eph. 2:21-22, Rev. 3:12)

Verse 15
Jesu, I hang upon thy word,
I stedfastly believe
Thou wilt return, and claim me, Lord,
And to thyself receive. (Ps. 49:15, Ps. 73:24, John 14:2-3, I Thess. 4:16-17)

To meet thee from above, (I Thess. 4:16-17)
Thy goodness thankfully adores, (Ps. 107:8)
And sure I taste thy love.

Verse 17
Thy love I soon expect to find
In all its depth and height,
To comprehend th’ eternal mind, (Eph. 3:17-19)
And grasp the infinite. (Rom. 11:33-34)

Verse 18
When thou dost in my heart appear,
And love erects its throne, (Luke 17:20-21, Col. 3:14-15)
I then enjoy salvation here,
And heaven on earth begun.

Verse 19
When God is mine, and I am his, (Song of Solomon 2:16, Song of Solomon 6:3, Song of Solomon 7:10, Isa. 44:5, Rom. 14:8)
Of paradise possest, (Luke 23:43)
I taste unutterable bliss, (II Cor. 12:4, I Pet. 1:8)
And everlasting rest. (Matt. 11:28-29, Heb. 4:9-11, Rev. 14:13)

Verse 20
The bliss of those that fully dwell,
Fully in thee believe,
’Tis more than angel-tongues can tell, (I Cor. 13:1)
Or angel-minds conceive. (I Pet. 1:12)

Verse 21
Thou only knowst, who didst obtain,
And die to make it known:
The great salvation now explain, (Heb. 2:3)
And perfect us in one. (John 17:21-23)

May I, may all who humbly wait,
The glorious joy receive, (I Pet. 1:8-9)

Worthy of God to give.

Lord, I believe, and rest secure (Mark 9:24, John 11:27)

Thy promise stands for ever sure, (Rom. 4:16)
And all thou art is mine.
