Lyrics

Verse 1
Jesu, if still thou art to day
As yesterday the same, (Heb. 13:8)
Present to heal, in me display (Luke 5:17)
The virtue of thy name.

Verse 2
If still thou go’st about, to do
Thy needy creatures good, (Acts 10:38)
On me, that I thy praise may shew,
Be all thy wonders shew’d. (Ps. 9:14, Ps. 106:2)

Verse 3
Now, Lord, to whom for help I call,
Thy miracles repeat;
With pitying eyes behold me fall
A leper at thy feet. (Matt. 8:2-3, Mark 1:40-42, Luke 5:12-13)

Verse 4
Loathsome, and foul, and self-abhor’d, (Job 42:6)
I sink beneath my sin;
But if thou wilt, a gracious word
Of thine can make me clean. (Matt. 8:2-3, Mark 1:40-42, Luke 5:12-13)

Verse 5
Thou see’st me deaf to thy commands,
Open, O Lord, my ear; (Isa. 35:5, Mark 7:32-35)
Bid me stretch out my wither’d hands, (Matt. 12:10-13, Mark 3:1-5, Luke 6:6-10)
And lift them up in prayer. (Ps. 141:2, I Tim. 2:8)

Verse 6
Silent, (alas thou know’st how long)
My voice I cannot raise;
But O! When thou shalt loose my tongue, (Mark 7:32-35, Luke 1:64)
The dumb shall sing thy praise. (Isa. 35:6, Matt. 9:32-33)

Verse 7
Lame at the pool I still am found: (John 5:2-9)
Give; and my strength employ;
Light as a hart I then shall bound, (Isa. 35:6)
The lame shall leap for joy. (Acts 3:7-8)

Verse 8
Blind from my birth to guilt, and thee, (John 9:1)
And dark I am within, (Eph. 4:18)
The love of God I cannot see,
The sinfulness of sin. (Rom. 7:13)

Verse 9
But thou, they say, art passing by; (Matt. 20:30, Luke 18:35-37)
O let me find thee near:
Jesus, in mercy hear my cry!
Thou Son of David hear! (Matt. 9:27, Matt. 20:30-31, Mark 10:47-48, Luke 18:38-39)

Verse 10
Long have I waited in the way (Mark 10:46, Luke 18:35)
For thee the heavenly light;
Command me to be brought, and say, (Luke 18:40)
“Sinner, receive thy sight.” (Mark 10:51-52, Luke 18:41-42, Luke 18:43)

Verse 11
While dead in trespasses I lie,
The quick’ning Spirit give; (I Cor. 15:45, Eph. 2:1, Eph. 2:4-5, Col. 2:13)
Call me, thou Son of God, that I
May hear thy voice, and live. (John 5:25, John 11:43-44)

Verse 12
While full of anguish and disease,
My weak, distemper’d soul
Thy love compassionately sees, (Matt. 9:36, Mark 1:41)
O let it make me whole.

Verse 13
While torn by hellish pride, I cry,
By legion-lust possest, (Mark 5:6-9, Luke 8:27-30)
Son of the living God, draw nigh, (Matt. 16:16, John 6:69, James 4:8)
And speak me into rest. (Matt. 11:28-29)

Verse 14
Cast out thy foes, and let them still (Mark 5:8, Mark 16:17, Luke 8:29)
To Jesu’s name submit; (Luke 10:17)
Cloath with thy righteousness, and heal,
And place me at thy feet. (Job 29:14, Ps. 132:9, Isa. 61:10, Mark 5:15, Luke 8:35)

Verse 15
To Jesu’s name if all things now
A trembling homage pay, (Isa. 45:23, Rom. 14:11, Phil. 2:10)
O let my stubborn spirit bow,
My stiff-neck’d will obey. (Ex. 32:9, Ex. 33:3, Deut. 9:6, Acts 7:51)

Verse 16
Impotent, dumb, and deaf, and blind,
And sick, and poor I am; (Isa. 35:5-6, Matt. 11:5, Mark 7:37, Luke 4:18, Luke 7:22, John 5:3)
But sure a remedy to find
For all in Jesu’s name. (Acts 4:10-12)

Verse 17
I know in thee all fulness dwells, (John 1:16, Col. 1:19, Col. 2:9)
And all for wretched man; (Rom. 7:24)
Fill every want my spirit feels,
And break off every chain. (Ps. 107:14, Mark 5:3-4, Luke 8:29)

Verse 18
If thou impart thyself to me,
No other good I need; (Ps. 73:25, Phil. 3:7-8)
If thou the Son shalt make me free,
I shall be free indeed. (John 8:36)

Verse 19
I cannot rest, till in thy blood,
I full redemption have; (Eph. 1:7, Col. 1:14, Heb. 9:12)
But thou, thro’ whom I come to God,
Canst to the utmost save. (Heb. 7:25)

Verse 20
From sin, the guilt, the power, the pain,
Thou wilt redeem my soul.
Lord, I believe; and not in vain: (Mark 9:24)
My faith shall make me whole. (Matt. 9:22, Mark 5:34, Mark 10:52, Luke 8:48, Luke 17:19)

Verse 21
I too with thee shall walk in white; (Rev. 3:4)
With all thy saints shall prove,
What is the length, and breadth, and height,
And depth of perfect love. (Eph. 3:17-19, I John 4:18)
