Thou the sov’reign potentate,
Blest, immortal thou alone. (I Tim. 6:15-16)

Essay your choicest strains,
The King Messiah reigns! (Rev. 11:15)
Tune your harps, celestial quire, (Rev. 5:8, Rev. 14:2)
Joyful all, your voices raise,
Christ than earth-born monarchs higher, (Ps. 89:27)
Sons of men and angels praise. (Rev. 5:11-13, Heb. 1:6)

Verse 3
Hail your dread Lord and ours,
Dominions, thrones, and pow’rs! (Col. 1:16, Eph. 1:20-21, I Pet. 3:22)
Source of pow’r he rules alone: (Matt. 28:18)
Veil your eyes, and prostrate fall,
Cast your crowns before his throne, (Rev. 4:10)
Hail the cause, the Lord of all! (Acts 10:36)

Let earth’s remotest bound
With echoing joys resound; (Ps. 98:3-4, Isa. 42:10)
Christ to praise let all conspire: (Rev. 5:13)

Universal nature join

Wisdom is due to thee,

Worthy thou of all our love,

To battle vain defy’d,

Far from heav’n, from glory far

Verse 10
Sin felt of old thy pow’r,
Thou patient Conqueror!
Long he vex’d the world below,

Thou destroy’dst the tyrant foe, (Heb. 2:14-15)

Trembles the king of fears (Job 18:14)
Whene’er thy cross appears.

Slain by an eternal wound
