Jesus Shall Reign Where'er the Sun

Verse 1
Jesus shall reign wher­e’er the sun
Does his suc­cess­ive jou­rneys run; (Ps. 72:5, Mal. 1:11)
His king­dom stretch from shore to shore, (Ps. 72:8, Rev. 11:15)
Till moons shall wax and wane no more. (Ps. 72:7)

Verse 2
Behold the is­lands with their kings, (Ps. 72:10)
And Eur­ope her best trib­ute brings;
From north to south the princ­es meet,
To pay their hom­age at His feet. (Ps. 72:10-11, Isa. 60:6)

Verse 3
There Per­sia, glo­ri­ous to be­hold,
There In­dia shines in east­ern gold;
And bar­bar­ous na­tions at His word
Submit, and bow, and own their Lord. (Ps. 72:11, Isa. 45:23, Rom. 14:11, Phil. 2:10)

Verse 4
To Him shall end­less pray­er be made, (Ps. 72:15)
And prais­es throng to crown His head; (Ps. 72:15)
His name like sweet per­fume shall rise (Mal. 1:11)
With ev­ery morn­ing sac­ri­fice. (Ps. 72:15, Rev. 8:3-4)

Verse 5
People and realms of ev­ery tongue (Ps. 72:17, Rev. 5:9)
Dwell on His love with sweet­est song;
And in­fant voic­es shall pro­claim
Their ear­ly bless­ings on His name. (Ps. 8:2, Matt. 21:16)

Verse 6
Blessings abound where’er He reigns; (Ps. 72:7)
The pri­son­er leaps to lose his chains; (Ps. 72:14, Isa. 61:1, Luke 4:18)
The wea­ry find eter­nal rest, (Matt. 11:28)
And all the sons of want are blest. (Ps. 72:12-14)

Verse 7
Where He dis­plays His heal­ing pow­er,
Death and the curse are known no more: (Isa. 25:8, I Cor. 15:26, I Cor. 15:54-55, Rev. 21:4, Rev. 22:3)
In Him the tribes of Ad­am boast
More bless­ings than their fa­ther lost. (Ps. 72:17-18, Rom. 5:15-17, I Cor. 15:22)

Verse 8
Let ev­ery crea­ture rise and bring
Peculiar hon­ors to our king; (Rev. 5:13)
Angels des­cend with songs again, (Luke 2:13-14)
And earth re­peat the loud amen. (Ps. 72:19)
