Lyrics

Verse 1
Must Jesus bear the cross alone, (John 19:17)
And all the world go free?
No, there’s a cross for everyone,
And there’s a cross for me. (Matthew 10:38, Matthew 16:24, Mark 8:34, Mark 10:21, Luke 9:23, Luke 14:27)

Verse 2
How happy are the saints above,
Who once went sorrowing here!
But now they taste unmingled love,
And joy without a tear. (Isaiah 25:8, Revelation 7:14, Revelation 21:4)

Verse 3
The consecrated cross I’ll bear
Till death shall set me free;
And then go home my crown to wear,
For there’s a crown for me. (II Tim. 4:8, James 1:12, I Pet. 5:4, Rev. 2:10)

Verse 4
Upon the crystal pavement down (Rev. 4:6)
At Jesus’ piercèd feet,
Joyful I’ll cast my golden crown (Rev. 4:10)
And His dear name repeat.

Verse 5
O precious cross! O glorious crown!
O resurrection day!
When Christ the Lord from Heav’n comes down
And bears my soul away. (I Corinthians 15:52, I Thessalonians 4:16-17)
