Lyrics

Verse 1
O God of all grace, (I Pet. 5:10)
Thy goodness we praise; (Ps. 107:8)
Thy Son thou hast given to die in our place. (John 3:16, Rom. 8:32, I John 4:10)

Verse 2
With joy we approve
The design of thy love;
’Tis a wonder on earth, and a wonder above.

Verse 3
Tongue cannot explain
That love of God-man,
Which the angels desire to look into in vain. (I Pet. 1:12)

Verse 4
It dazzles our eyes:
Thought cannot arise,
To find out a cause why the infinite dies.

Verse 5
Or if pity inclin’d
Him to die for mankind,
The ground of his pity what seraph can find?

Verse 6
He came from above, (John 3:31, John 8:23)
Our curse to remove; (Gal. 3:13)
He hath lov’d, he hath lov’d us, because he would love.

Verse 7
Love mov’d him to die, (John 15:13, Gal. 2:20, Eph. 5:2)
And on this we rely:
He hath lov’d, he hath lov’d us, we cannot tell why!

Verse 8
But this we can tell,
He hath lov’d us so well,
As to lay down his life to redeem us from hell. (Ps. 49:15, Ps. 86:13, Hos. 13:14, John 10:11, John 15:13, I John 3:16)

Verse 9
He hath ransom’d our race; (Matt. 20:28, Mark 10:45, I Tim. 2:5-6)
O how shall we praise,
Or worthily sing thy unspeakable grace?

Verse 10
Nothing else will we know (I Cor. 2:2)
In our journey below,
But singing thy grace, to thy paradise go. (Col. 3:16)

Verse 11
Nay, and when we remove
To the mansions above, (John 14:2)
Our heaven shall still be to sing of thy love.

Verse 12
Thrice happy employ!
We there shall enjoy
A fulness of pleasure that never can cloy. (Ps. 16:11)

Verse 13
The heavenly quire
With us shall aspire, (Rev. 7:9-12)
And gladly our loving Redeemer admire. (II Thess. 1:10)

Verse 14
Thy wonders of grace
The angels shall praise,
Yet ever come short in their loftiest lays.

Verse 15
We all shall commend
The love of our friend,
Forever beginning what never shall end.

Verse 16
When time is no more, (Rev. 10:6)
We still shall adore
That ocean of love without bottom, or shore. (Eph. 3:18-19)

Verse 17
For this do we wait;
Come, Lord, and translate (Rev. 22:20)
Our souls to their perfectly glorious estate. (I Cor. 15:51-53, Heb. 11:5)

Verse 18
O hasten the day! (II Pet. 3:12)
He will not delay, (Hab. 2:3, Heb. 10:37)
But quickly return, and conduct us away. (John 14:3, I Thess. 4:16-17, Rev. 3:11, Rev. 22:7, Rev. 22:12)

Verse 19
E’er [Ere] long we shall fly
To the regions on high, (I Thess. 4:17)
For Israel’s strength cannot vary, or lie. (Num. 23:19, I Sam. 15:29, Mal. 3:6, Tit. 1:2, Heb. 6:18, James 1:17)

Verse 20
He soon shall appear, (James 5:8, Rev. 22:20)
He more than draws near;
Our Jesus is come, and ETERNITY’S here!
