Lyrics

Verse 1
O happy day, that fixed my choice
On Thee, my Savior and my God!
Well may this glowing heart rejoice, (Ps. 13:5)
And tell its raptures all abroad.

Chorus
Happy day, happy day,
When Jesus washed my sins away! (Ps. 51:2, Acts 22:16, I John 1:7, Rev. 1:5)
He taught me how to watch and pray, (Matthew 26:41, Mark 13:33, Mark 14:38, Luke 21:36)
And live rejoicing every day (Ps. 118:24, Phil. 4:4, I Thess. 5:16)
Happy day, happy day,
When Jesus washed my sins away. (Ps. 51:2, Acts 22:16, I John 1:7, Rev. 1:5)

Verse 2
O happy bond, that seals my vows
To Him who merits all my love!
Let cheerful anthems fill His house, (Ps. 100:4)
While to that sacred shrine I move.

Verse 3
’Tis done: the great transaction’s done:
I am the Lord’s and He is mine; (Song of Solomon 2:16, Song of Solomon 6:3, Isa. 43:1, Rom. 14:8)
He drew me, and I followed on; (Jer. 31:3, John 6:44)
Charmed to confess the voice divine.

Verse 4
Now rest my long divided heart, (Ps. 86:11)
Fixed on this blissful center, rest;
With ashes who would grudge to part (Isa. 61:3)
When called on angels’ bread to feast? (Ps. 78:25)

Verse 5
High Heaven, that heard the solemn vow,
That vow renewed shall daily hear,
Till in life’s latest hour I bow
And bless in death a bond so dear.
