Of the Father's Love Begotten

Verse 1
Of the Fa­ther’s love be­got­ten,
Ere the worlds be­gan to be, (John 17:5, Col. 1:17)
He is Al­pha and Ome­ga, (Isa. 44:6, Rev. 1:8, Rev. 1:11, Rev. 21:6, Rev. 22:13)
He the source, the end­ing He,
Of the things that are, that have been, (Col. 1:16-17)
And that fu­ture years shall see,
Evermore and ev­er­more!

Verse 2
He is here, whom seers in old time
Chanted of, while ag­es ran;
Whom the writ­ings of the pro­phets
Promised since the world be­gan; (Luke 1:70, Acts 3:18, Acts 3:21, Rom. 1:2)
Then fore­told, now ma­ni­fest­ed, (I Tim. 3:16, I John 1:1-2)
To re­ceive the praise of man, (John 5:23)

O that ever-bless­èd birth­day,
When the vir­gin, full of grace, (Luke 1:28, Isa. 7:14, Matt. 1:23)
Of the Ho­ly Ghost in­car­nate
Bare the Sav­ior of our race; (Matt. 1:20-21, Luke 1:35)
And that Child, the world’s Re­deem­er, (Luke 2:11)
First dis­played His sac­red face,
Evermore and ev­er­more!

Verse 4
Praise Him, O ye Heav’n of Heav­ens! (Ps. 148:4)
Praise Him, an­gels in the height! (Ps. 148:1-2, Heb. 1:6)
Every pow­er and ev­ery vir­tue
Sing praise of God aright;
Let no tongue of man be si­lent,
Let each heart and voice unite, (Ps. 150:6)

Verse 5
Thee let age, and Thee let man­hood,
Thee let choirs of in­fants sing;
Thee the ma­trons and the vir­gins,

And their heart its prais­es bring,
