Rejoice, rejoice, ye fallen race, fallen from God

Verse 1
Rejoice, rejoice ye fallen race,
Fallen from God whom once ye knew, (Rom. 1:21)
He waits again to shew his grace, (Isa. 14:1, Isa. 30:18)
The Lord a promise hath for you. (Acts 2:39)

Verse 2
The gracious word of his command
Backsliding Israel shall restore, (Jer. 3:12, Jer. 3:22, Hos. 14:4)
And set thee in thy native land, (Isa. 14:1, Ezek. 36:24, Ezek. 37:14)
Whence thou shalt never wander more. (Amos 9:15)

Verse 3
Strangers shall then to thee be join’d,
Shall to the house of Jacob cleave, (Isa. 14:1, Isa. 56:6, Zech. 2:11, Eph. 2:19)
Adore the Saviour of mankind (I Tim. 4:10, I John 4:14)
Who died that all mankind might live. (II Cor. 5:14-15, I Tim. 2:5-6, Heb. 2:9)

Verse 4
Restor’d to thine unsinning state,
Thou at thy feet the world shalt see
As servants and as handmaids wait, (Isa. 14:2, Isa. 49:23)
Glad to receive the law from thee. (Isa. 2:3, Mic. 4:2)

Verse 5
The lords to whom thou bowd’st thy neck
Shall bow their neck beneath thy chain, (Isa. 14:2, Isa. 45:14)
Thy conquerors thou shalt captive take, (Isa. 14:2, Judges 5:12, Ps. 68:18, Eph. 4:8)
And o’er thy dire oppressors reign. (Isa. 14:2)

Verse 6
Surely the gospel day shall come, (II Cor. 6:2)
The Lord thy spirit shall release,
Satan shall have his final doom, (Rev. 20:10)
And thou from sin for ever cease. (Rom. 6:7, Rom. 6:18, I Pet. 4:1)

Verse 7
From all thy grief, and pain, and fear; (Isa. 14:3)
Thy grief to be by sin subdued,
Thy pain the gauling yoke to bear, (Isa. 14:3)
Thy fear to perish in thy blood. (Heb. 2:15)

Then when the Lord hath giv’n thee rest (Isa. 14:3, Ex. 33:14, Matt. 11:28, Heb. 4:9)

Verse 9
Thou, the poor slave of Satan, thou (II Tim. 2:26)
Shalt spurn thy old imperious king,
Vanquish’d, for ever vanquish’d now, (Col. 2:15, I John 3:8)
And thus the song triumphal sing: (Isa. 14:4, Ex. 15:1)

Verse 10
How hath the proud oppressor ceas’d! (Isa. 14:4)
Fallen the height of Babel’s tow’rs, (Gen. 11:4, Isa. 21:9, Rev. 18:2)
Fallen the king who long oppress’d
The earth with all its struggling powers. (Isa. 14:12, Isa. 14:16)

Verse 11
The world’s fierce ruler, and their god (John 12:31, II Cor. 4:4)
Who bow’d the nations to his yoke,
And bruis’d them with an iron rod,
And smote with a continual stroke; (Isa. 14:5-6)

Verse 12
How hath the Lord destroy’d his power,
O’erturn’d his kingdom from within,
Ended the dark, oppressive hour, (Luke 22:53)
And broke his staff of inbred sin! (Isa. 14:5, Isa. 9:4)

Verse 13
That man of sin is now cast down (II Thess. 2:3, II Thess. 2:8, Rev. 12:10)
Who held the captive world in chains, (Isa. 14:17, II Tim. 2:26)
And none the cause of Satan own,
And none contend for sin’s remains.

Verse 14
All the new earth is now at rest, (Isa. 14:7, Isa. 65:17, II Pet. 3:13, Rev. 21:1)
From every thought of sin they cease,
Calm holy joy expands their breast,
Their mouth is fill’d with songs of peace. (Isa. 14:7)

Verse 15
The trees of righteousness rejoice; (Ps. 96:12, Isa. 61:3)
Since thou art down, the cedars cry,
We hear no more the ax’s noise,
Nor tremble at the feller nigh. (Isa. 14:8)

Verse 16
Tophet is for the king prepar’d, (Isa. 30:33)
The sorest doom thy crimes require,
Hell from beneath, for thy reward,
Stirs up its everlasting fire. (Isa. 14:9, Matt. 18:8, Matt. 25:41, Rev. 20:10)

Verse 17
O Lucifer, bright morning-star,
Brighter than all with thee who fell, (Ezek. 28:17, Rev. 12:7-9)
How art thou fall’n from glory far, (Isa. 14:12)
From glory to profoundest hell! (Isa. 14:15)

Verse 18
Reserv’d, in dark, substantial chains,
To the tremendous judgment day, (II Pet. 2:4, Jude 1:6)
Our God shall then fill up thy pains, (Matt. 8:29, Rev. 20:10)
Thy bruiser shall for ever slay. (Gen. 3:15, Heb. 2:14)

Verse 19
He now thy nature hath expell’d,
And forc’d thy malice to submit,
Our sin is gone, our soul is heal’d, (Ps. 41:4, Isa. 53:5, I Pet. 2:24)
And thou art bruis’d beneath our feet. (Luke 10:19, Rom. 16:20)

Verse 20
How art thou humbled to the ground, (Isa. 14:12)
The feeble world’s tyrannic lord, (Isa. 14:10, John 12:31)
In us no more thy place is found, (Eph. 4:27, Rev. 12:8)
Slain by the Spirit’s two-edg’d sword. (Eph. 6:17, Heb. 4:12)

Verse 21
Faded and thunder-struck thy brow,
From all thy hopes of empire driven,
Where is thy glorious vaunting now? (Isa. 14:11)
“I, even I will mount to heaven. (Isa. 14:13)

Verse 22
“Above the stars of God once more
“I will exalt my sovereign throne, (Isa. 14:13)
“And force his sons to own my power,
“And cast the earth-born potsherds down. (Isa. 45:9)

“I will compel them to submit
“A thorn in all his people’s side, (II Cor. 12:7)

Verse 24
“I in their hearts will still remain,

“My throne immoveable maintain,

Verse 25
“The soul of man shall be my shrine,
“And entertain my deity, (II Thess. 2:4)
“That temple built by hands divine (I Cor. 3:16-17, I Cor. 6:19)
“My everlasting home shall be.

Verse 26
“Above the clouds I will aspire,
“I will aspire, and scale the sky, (Isa. 14:14)
“Higher than men, than angels higher,
“And bold to rival the Most High.” (Isa. 14:13-14, Ezek. 28:6)

Verse 27
Yet shalt thou be brought down to hell, (Isa. 14:15, Ezek. 28:8)
O Antichrist, thy day shall come, (II Thess. 2:8, I John 2:18)
In us thou shalt not always dwell,
The judge shall quickly seal thy doom. (Rom. 16:20)

Verse 28
Is this the man of hellish birth
(Thy former vassals then shall say) (Isa. 14:16)
Who shook the kingdoms of the earth,
And made the trembling world obey! (Isa. 14:6, Isa. 14:16)

Verse 29
Who made the world a wilderness,
Laid waste the souls of all mankind, (Isa. 14:17)
Nor ever would his slaves release, (Isa. 14:17)
To sin’s eternal bonds consign’d. (Rom. 6:16)
