Lyrics

Verse 1
Stand up, stand up for Jesus,
Ye soldiers of the cross; (II Tim. 2:3)
Lift high His royal banner, (Ps. 20:5, Ps. 60:4, Isa. 11:10-12, Isa. 59:19)
It must not suffer loss.
From victory unto victory (II Cor. 2:14)
His army shall He lead,
Till every foe is vanquished, (I Cor. 15:25, Rev. 17:14)
And Christ is Lord indeed. (Phil. 2:9-11)

Verse 2
Stand up, stand up for Jesus,
The solemn watchword hear;
If while ye sleep He suffers, (Matt. 26:40-41, Mark 14:37-38)
Away with shame and fear;
Where’er ye meet with evil,
Within you or without, (Rom. 7:23, II Cor. 7:5)
Charge for the God of battles, (Ex. 15:3)
And put the foe to rout. (James 4:7, I Pet. 5:8-9)

Verse 3
Stand up, stand up for Jesus,
The trumpet call obey; (I Cor. 14:8)
Forth to the mighty conflict,
In this His glorious day.
Ye that are brave now serve Him
Against unnumbered foes;
Let courage rise with danger, (I Cor. 16:13)
And strength to strength oppose.

Verse 4
Stand up, stand up for Jesus,
Stand in His strength alone; (Eph. 6:10)
The arm of flesh will fail you, (II Chron. 32:8, Jer. 17:5)
Ye dare not trust your own.
Put on the Gospel armor, (Eph. 6:10-17)
Each piece put on with prayer;
Where duty calls or danger,
Be never wanting there.

Verse 5
Stand up, stand up for Jesus,
Each soldier to his post,
Close up the broken column,
And shout through all the host:
Make good the loss so heavy,
In those that still remain,
And prove to all around you
That death itself is gain. (Phil. 1:21)

Verse 6
Stand up, stand up for Jesus,
The strife will not be long; (Rom. 8:18, II Cor. 4:17-18)
This day the noise of battle,
The next the victor’s song. (Rev. 15:2-3)
To him who overcometh
A crown of life shall be; (James 1:12, Rev. 2:10)
They with the King of Glory (Ps. 24:7-10)
Shall reign eternally. (Rev. 22:5, II Tim. 2:12, Rev. 20:6)
