Sweet Hour of Prayer

Verse 1
Sweet hour of pray­er! sweet hour of pray­er! (Acts 3:1)
That calls me from a world of care,
And bids me at my Fa­ther’s throne (Heb. 4:16)
Make all my wants and wish­es known. (Phil. 4:6)
In sea­sons of dis­tress and grief,
My soul has oft­en found re­lief
And oft es­caped the tempt­er’s snare (II Tim. 2:26, I Cor. 10:13)
By thy re­turn, sweet hour of pray­er!

Verse 2
Sweet hour of pray­er! sweet hour of pray­er!
The joys I feel, the bliss I share,
Of those whose anx­ious spir­its burn
With strong de­sires for thy re­turn!
With such I hast­en to the place
Where God my Sav­ior shows His face, (Ps. 27:8)
And glad­ly take my sta­tion there,
And wait for thee, sweet hour of pray­er!

Verse 3
Sweet hour of pray­er! sweet hour of pray­er!
Thy wings shall my pe­ti­tion bear
To Him whose truth and faith­ful­ness
Engage the wait­ing soul to bless. (Lam. 3:25)
And since He bids me seek His face, (II Chron. 7:14, Ps. 27:8, Ps. 105:4)
Believe His Word and trust His grace,
I’ll cast on Him my ev­ery care, (I Pet. 5:7, Ps. 55:22)
And wait for thee, sweet hour of pray­er!

May I thy con­so­la­tion share,
Till, from Mount Pis­gah’s lof­ty height,
I view my home and take my flight: (Deut. 3:27, Deut. 34:1-5)
This robe of flesh I’ll drop and rise (I Cor. 15:52-54, II Cor. 5:2-4)
To seize the ev­er­last­ing prize; (I Cor. 9:24-25, Phil. 3:14, II Tim. 4:7-8)
And shout, while pass­ing through the air, (I Thess. 4:16-17)
Farewell, fare­well, sweet hour of pray­er!
