Tell Me the Stories of Jesus

Verse 1
Tell me the sto­ries of Je­sus
I love to hear;
Things I would ask Him to tell me
If He were here;
Scenes by the way­side,
Tales of the sea,
Stories of Je­sus, tell them to me.

Verse 2
First let me hear how the child­ren
Stood round His knee, (Matt. 19:13-15, Mark 10:13-16, Luke 18:15-17)
And I shall fan­cy His bless­ing
Resting on me;
Words full of kind­ness,
Deeds full of grace, (Luke 4:22, John 1:14)
All in the love light of Je­sus’ face. (II Cor. 4:6, Num. 6:25)

Verse 3
Tell me, in ac­cents of won­der,
How rolled the sea,
Tossing the boat in a tem­pest
On Ga­li­lee;
And how the Mak­er, (John 1:3, Col. 1:16)
Ready and kind,
Chided the billows,
And hushed the wind. (Ps. 107:28-29, Matt. 8:23-27, Mark 4:35-41, Luke 8:22-25)

Verse 4
Into the ci­ty I’d fol­low
The child­ren’s band,
Waving a branch of the palm tree
High in my hand.
One of His her­alds,
Yes, I would sing
Loudest ho­san­nas, (Matt. 21:8-9, Matt. 21:15-16, Mark 11:8-10, Luke 19:37-38, John 12:12-13)
Jesus is King!

Verse 5
Tell how the spar­row that twit­ters
On yon­der tree, (Mark 10:29-31, Luke 12:6-7)
And the sweet mea­dow-side li­ly
May speak to me— (Matt. 6:28-29, Luke 12:27)
Give me their mes­sage,
For I would hear
How Je­sus taught us
Our Fa­ther’s care. (Matt. 6:25-32, Luke 12:22-24)

Verse 6
Show me that scene in the gar­den,
Of bit­ter pain. (Matt. 26:36-46, Mark 14:32-42, Luke 22:39-46)
Show me the cross where my Sav­ior
For me was slain. (Isa. 53:5, Luke 23:33, John 19:17-18, I Cor. 15:3, Gal. 2:20, I Pet. 2:24)
Sad ones or bright ones,
So that they be
Stories of Je­sus,
Tell them to me.
