What a Friend We Have in Jesus

What a friend we have in Je­sus, (John 15:13-15)
All our sins and griefs to bear! (Isa. 53:4, Matt. 8:17, I Pet. 2:24)
What a pri­vi­lege to car­ry
Everything to God in pray­er! (Phil. 4:6-7)
O what peace we oft­en for­feit, (Phil. 4:6-7)
O what need­less pain we bear,
All be­cause we do not car­ry
Everything to God in pray­er. (Ps. 55:22, I Pet. 5:7)

Verse 2
Have we tri­als and temp­ta­tions?
Is there trou­ble any­where?
We should nev­er be dis­cour­aged;
Take it to the Lord in pray­er. (Phil. 4:6)
Can we find a friend so faith­ful (Heb. 2:17-18)
Who will all our sor­rows share?
Jesus knows our ev­ery weak­ness; (Heb. 2:18, Heb. 4:15-16)
Take it to the Lord in pray­er.

Verse 3
Are we weak and hea­vy la­den, (Matt. 11:28)
Cumbered with a load of care?
Precious Sav­ior, still our re­fuge, (Deut. 33:27, Ps. 46:1, Ps. 91:2)
Take it to the Lord in pray­er. (Phil. 4:6)
Do your friends des­pise, for­sake you? (II Tim. 4:16-17, Ps. 41:9, Matt. 26:56, Mark 14:50)
Take it to the Lord in pray­er!
In His arms He’ll take and shield you; (Isa. 40:11)
You will find a sol­ace there.

Verse 4
Blessèd Sav­ior, Thou hast pro­mised
Thou wilt all our bur­dens bear (Matt. 11:28, Ps. 55:22, I Pet. 5:7, Isa. 46:4)
May we ev­er, Lord, be bring­ing
All to Thee in ear­nest pray­er. (Phil. 4:6, Luke 18:1, I Thess. 5:17)
Soon in glo­ry bright un­cloud­ed
There will be no need for pray­er (Rev. 7:15-17, Rev. 22:3-5)
Rapture, praise and end­less wor­ship
Will be our sweet por­tion there.
