Come, Holy Ghost, our hearts inspire

Verse 1
Come, Holy Ghost, our hearts inspire,
Let us thy influence prove;
Source of the old prophetick fire, (II Pet. 1:21, Acts 2:3-4)
Fountain of life, and love. (John 4:14, Ps. 36:9, Rom. 5:5, II Tim. 1:7)

Verse 2
Come, Holy Ghost, (for, mov’d by thee,
Thy prophets wrote and spoke:) (II Pet. 1:21, II Tim. 3:16, Acts 1:16)
Unlock the truth, thyself the key, (John 14:26, John 15:26, John 16:13)
Unseal the sacred book. (Rev. 5:5)

Verse 3
Expand thy wings, prolific Dove, (Matt. 3:16, Mark 1:10, Luke 3:22, John 1:32)
Brood o’er our nature’s night;
On our disorder’d spirits move,
And let there now be light. (Gen. 1:2-3, II Cor. 4:6)

Verse 4
God thro’ himself we then shall know, (I Cor. 2:10-12, I John 4:13, John 14:26)
If thou within us shine, (II Cor. 4:6)
And sound, with all thy saints below,
The depths of love divine. (Eph. 3:18-19)
