Allured into the desert

Verse 1
Allur’d into the desert (Hosea 2:14)
Of trouble and temptation,
Again we hear
The Comforter, (John 14:16, John 16:7)
The God of our salvation:
The door of hope is open’d (Hosea 2:15)
Ev’n in the depth of sadness,
His pard’ning voice
Restores our joys, (Ps. 51:12)
And fills our heart with gladness.

Verse 2
Ev’n here he bids us triumph (II Cor. 2:14)
In his experienc’d favour,
As in the days
Of infant grace,
When first we found our Saviour;
Out of the iron furnace (Deut. 4:20, II Kings 8:51, Jer. 11:4, Hosea 2:15)
As when by Pharaoh driven
In haste we came, (Ex. 12:11)
And hymn’d the name
That spake our sins forgiven.
