Verse 1
And are we yet alive,
And see each other’s face?
Glory, and thanks to Jesus give
For his almighty grace: (II Cor. 9:14-15)
Preserv’d by power divine (I Pet. 1:5, Jude 1:24)
To full salvation here, (Heb. 7:25)
Again in Jesu’s praise we join,
And in his sight appear. (Col. 1:22)
Verse 2
What troubles have we seen,
What mighty conflicts past, (Ps. 34:19)
Fightings without, and fears within, (II Cor. 7:5)
Since we assembled last!
Yet out of all the Lord
Hath brought us by his love, (Ex. 15:13, Ps. 34:19, II Cor. 1:8-10, II Tim. 4:18)
And still he doth his help afford,
And hide our life above. (Col. 3:3)
Verse 3
Then let us make our boast
Of his redeeming power, (Gal. 6:14)
Which saves us to the uttermost, (Heb. 7:25)
’Till we can sin no more: (Rom. 6:22)
Let us take up the cross, (Matt. 10:38, Matt. 16:24, Mark 8:34, Mark 10:21, Luke 9:23)
’Till we the crown obtain, (II Tim. 4:8, James 1:12)
And gladly reckon all things loss,
So we may Jesus gain. (Phil. 3:8)
Verse 4
Jesus, to thee we bow, (Isa. 45:23, Rom. 14:11, Phil. 2:10)
And for thy coming wait: (I Thess. 1:10, Tit. 2:13)
Give us for good some token now (II Cor. 1:22)
In our imperfect state;
Apply the hallowing word, (John 17:17, Heb. 4:12)
Tell each who looks for thee, (II Pet. 3:12)
Thou shalt be perfect as thy Lord, (Matt. 5:48, John 17:23)
Thou shalt be all like me! (I John 3:2, Rom. 8:29)
