And let this feeble body fail

Verse 1
And let this feeble body fail, (Psalm 73:26)
And let it droop, or die,
My soul shall quit the mournful vale, (Psalm 23:4)
And soar to worlds on high: (II Cor. 5:1-2)
Shall join the disembodied saints,
And find its long sought rest, (Rev. 14:13, Heb. 4:9-10)
(That only bliss for which it pants)
In my Redeemer’s breast. (John 13:23, II Cor. 5:8)

Verse 2
In hope of that immortal crown, (I Cor. 9:25, I Pet. 5:4)
I now the cross sustain, (Matt. 10:38, Matt. 16:24, Mark 8:34, Mark 10:21, Luke 9:23)
And gladly wander up and down, (Heb. 11:13)
And smile at toil and pain:
I suffer out my threescore years, (Psalm 90:10)
Till my Deliverer come, (Isa. 59:20, Rom. 11:26, II Sam. 22:2, Psalm 18:2, Psalm 40:17, Psalm 70:5, Psalm 144:2)
And wipe away his servant’s tears, (Isa. 25:8, Rev. 7:17, Rev. 21:4)
And take his exile home.

Verse 3
Surely he will not long delay, (Heb. 10:37)
I hear his Spirit cry,
“Arise, my love, make haste away, (Song of Solomon 2:10, Song of Solomon 2:13)
Go, get thee up, and die. (Num. 27:12-13, Deut. 32:49-50)
O’er death, who now has lost his sting,
I give the victory, (I Cor. 15:55-57)
And with me my reward I bring, (Rev. 22:12)
I bring my heaven for thee.” (Rev. 21:1-2)

Verse 4
Lord, I the welcome word receive, (James 1:21)
Thee on the mount adore, (Matt. 17:1-9, Mark 9:1-8, Luke 9:28-36)
For thy dear sake content to live (Phil. 1:21)
Some painful moments more:
I live in holy grief and joy,
On Pisgah’s top I stand, (Deut. 34:1-5, Deut. 3:27)
And life’s important point employ,
To view the promis’d land.

Verse 5
O what hath Jesus bought for me!
Before my ravish’d eyes
Rivers of life divine I see, (Rev. 22:1-2, Ezek. 47:12)
And trees of paradise:
They flourish in perpetual bloom,
Fruit every month they give; (Rev. 22:1-2, Ezek. 47:12)
And to the healing leaves who come,
Eternally shall live. (Rev. 22:1-2, Ezek. 47:12)

Verse 6
I see a world of spirits bright,
Who reap the pleasures there;
They all are rob’d in purest white, (Rev. 7:13-14)
And conquering palms they bear: (Rev. 7:9)
Adorn’d by their Redeemer’s grace
They close pursue the Lamb, (Rev. 14:4)
And every shining front displays
Th’ unutterable name. (Rev. 22:4)

Verse 7
They drink the deifying stream, (Rev. 7:17)
They pluck th’ ambrosial fruit,
And each records the praise of him
Who tun’d his golden lute:
At once they strike th’ harmonious wire,
And hymn the great Three-One:
He hears; he smiles: and all the quire
Fall down before his throne. (Rev. 4:10)

Verse 8
O what an heaven of heavens is this,
This swoon of silent love!
How poor the world’s sublimest bliss
Compar’d with joys above! (I Cor. 2:9)
With joys above may I be blest,
And earthly bliss I scorn; (Phil. 3:8)
Or sing triumphantly distrest
Till I to God return.

Verse 9
O what are all my sufferings here, (Rom. 8:18, II Cor. 4:17)
If, Lord, thou count me meet
With that inraptur’d host t’ appear,
And worship at thy feet! (Rev. 22:3-4)
Give joy or grief, give ease or pain, (Job 2:10)
Take life or friends away,
I come, to find them all again
In that eternal day.
