Bound to the altar see

Verse 1
Bound to the altar see
The bleeding Sacrifice!
Uplifted on that shameful tree
He hangs ’twixt earth and skies!
Jesus the Crucified
Invites our sinful race,
And with those arms extended wide
Would all mankind embrace.

Verse 2
Was ever grief like his,
Who bears Jehovah’s name!
Of all his glory stript He is,
And cover’d with our shame,
Cover’d with his own blood
Whom earth and heaven desires,
The Father’s Joy, th’ eternal God
In agonies expires!

Verse 3
Number’d with sinners Thee
My Saviour I confess,
Strugling in death to ransom me
And all our dying race:
My Purchaser Divine,
My rightful Lord Thou art,
And lo! I answer thy design,
And give thee all my heart!
