But doth it, Lord, Thy wonder raise

But doth it, Lord, thy wonder raise
The faith Thou hast thyself bestow’d?
O what a mystery of grace!
The Man in Christ admires the God!
Thou wonder’st at thy Father’s deeds,
That we may praise what He hath done,
From whom our every good proceeds,
And all receive thro’ faith alone.

He later revised and expanded it in his unpublished 1766 manuscript “MS Matthew.” This manuscript is part of the collection of the Methodist Archive and Research Centre in The John Rylands Library, The University of Manchester (accession number MA 1977/577, Charles Wesley Notebooks Box 3).
