By faith I Babel’s fall foresee

By faith I Babel’s fall foresee,
The Babel of indwelling sin:
I know the promise is for me,
And wait th’ accomplishment within:
Thy word in that appointed day
Faithful and true we all shall prove,
And seeming slow, thou wilt not stay,
But come, and perfect us in love.

Hymnal/Album: Originally titled “The vision is yet for an appointed time, but at the end it shall speak, and not lie.”—[Hab.] ii. 3. Introduced in Charles Wesley, Short Hymns on Select Passages of the Holy Scriptures, Vol. 2 (Bristol: Farley, 1762). Published in The Poetical Works of John and Charles Wesley, Collected and Arranged by G. Osborn, Vol. 10 (London: Wesleyan-Methodist Conference Office, 1870), page 102.
