Verse 1
Father of faithful Abraham hear,
Our earnest suit for Abraham’s seed: (Luke 1:55, John 8:37)
Justly they claim the softest tear,
From us, adopted in their stead, (Rom. 11:17-18, Rom. 11:30-31)
Who mercy thro’ their fall obtain, (Rom. 11:11-12, Rom. 11:15)
And Christ by their rejection gain.
Verse 2
Outcasts from thee, and scatter’d wide
Thro’ every nation under heaven, (Lev. 26:33, Deut. 4:27-28, Deut. 28:64, Jer. 9:16, Ezek. 12:15, Ezek. 36:19, John 7:35, James 1:1)
Blaspheming whom they crucified, (Acts 3:13-15, Acts 13:45, Acts 26:11, I Thess. 2:14-15)
Unsav’d, unpitied, unforgiven,
Branded like Cain, they bear their load, (Gen. 4:13-15)
Abhor’d of men, and curst of God.
Verse 3
But hast thou finally forsook,
For ever cast thine own away? (Rom. 11:1-2, Ps. 94:14)
Wilt thou not bid the murderers look
On him they pierc’d, and weep, and pray? (Zech. 12:10, John 19:37, Rev. 1:7)
Yes, gracious God, thy word is past,
All Israel shall be sav’d at last. (Rom. 11:26, Isa. 45:17)
Verse 4
Come then, thou great Deliverer come,
The veil from Jacob’s heart remove, (II Cor. 3:14-16)
Receive thine antient people home, (Rom. 11:26, Deut. 30:3-5, Isa. 11:11-12, Jer. 23:3, Ezek. 36:24, Ezek. 37:21)
That quicken’d by thy dying love,
The world may there reception find
Life from the dead for all mankind. (Rom. 11:15)
