God of all power, and truth, and grace, which shall from age to age

Verse 1
God of all power, and truth, and grace,
Which shall from age to age endure, (Ps. 90:2, Isa. 63:16, Lk. 1:50)
Whose word, when heaven and earth shall pass, (Matt. 24:35, Mark 13:31, Luke 21:33)
Remains, and stands for ever sure: (Ps. 119:89, Is. 40:8, I Pet. 1:25)

Verse 2
Calmly to thee my soul looks up,
And waits thy promises to prove,
The object of my stedfast hope, (Heb. 6:19)
The seal of thine eternal love. (Song of Solomon 8:6)

Verse 3
That I thy mercy may proclaim,
That all mankind thy truth may see,
Hallow thy great and glorious name, (Ezek. 36:23, Matt. 6:10, Luke 11:2)
And perfect holiness in me. (I Pet. 1:16)

Verse 4
Chose from the world if now I stand (John 15:19, I Cor. 1:27-28)
Adorn’d in righteousness divine; (Job 29:14, Isa. 61:10, II Cor. 5:21)
If brought into the promis’d land (Ezek. 36:24)
I justly call the Saviour mine:

Verse 5
Perform the work thou hast begun, (Phil. 1:6)
My inmost soul to thee convert;
Love me, for ever love thine own,
And sprinkle with thy blood my heart. (Ezek. 36:25, Heb. 10:22, Heb. 12:24)

Verse 6
Thy sanctifying Spirit pour (Joel 2:28, Acts 2:17)
To quench my thirst, and wash me clean: (Ezek. 36:25, John 7:37-39, Tit. 3:5)
Now, Father, let the gracious shower
Descend, and make me pure from sin. (Ezek. 36:25)

Verse 7
Purge me from every sinful blot, (Ezek. 36:25, Ps. 51:7)
My idols all be cast aside, (Ezek. 36:25)
Cleanse me from every evil thought, (II Cor. 10:5, Ps. 51:7)
From all the filth of self and pride.

Verse 8
Give me a new, a perfect heart, (Ezek. 36:26)
From doubt, and fear, and sorrow free,
The mind which was in Christ impart, (Phil. 2:5)
And let my spirit cleave to thee.

Verse 9
O take this heart of stone away, (Ezek. 36:26, Ezek. 11:19)
(Thy sway it doth not, cannot own)
In me no longer let it stay,
O take away this heart of stone. (Ezek. 36:26, Ezek. 11:19)

Verse 10
The hatred of the carnal mind (Rom. 8:7)
Out of my flesh at once remove; (Col. 3:5)
Give me a tender heart, resign’d (Ezek. 36:26, Ezek. 11:19)
And pure, and full of faith and love. (I Tim. 1:5)

Verse 11
Within me thy good Spirit place, (Ezek. 36:27)
Spirit of health, and love, and power, (II Tim. 1:7)
Plant in me thy victorious grace,
And sin shall never enter more. (I Jn. 3:9, Rom. 6:14)

Verse 12
Cause me to walk in Christ my way, (John 14:6)
And I thy statutes shall fulfil; (Ezek. 36:27)
In every point thy law obey, (James 2:10)
And perfectly perform thy will. (Ezek. 36:27)

Verse 13
Hast thou not said, who canst not lie, (Titus 1:2, Num. 23:19)
That I thy law shall keep and do?
Lord, I believe; tho’ men deny:
They all are false, but thou art true. (Rom. 3:4)

Verse 14
O that I now from sin releas’d
Thy word might to the utmost prove!
Enter into the promis’d rest, (Ezek. 36:28, Josh. 1:13, Josh. 21:44, Matt. 11:28, Heb. 4:1, Heb. 4:9-11)
The Canaan of thy perfect love.

Verse 15
There let me ever, ever dwell, (Ezek. 36:28)
Be thou my God, and I will be (Ex. 6:7, Jer. 31:33)
Thy servant; O set to thy seal, (Ezek. 36:28, II Cor. 1:22, Rev. 22:3-5)
Give me eternal life in thee. (John 3:15-16, I Jn. 5:11)

Verse 16
From all remaining filth within, (Ezek. 36:29)
Let me in thee salvation have,
From actual, and from inbred sin
My ransom’d soul persist to save. (Ezek. 36:29)

Verse 17
Wash out my deep original stain,— (Ezek. 36:29, Ps. 51:2, Ps. 51:5)
Tell me no more, It cannot be,
Demons, or men! The Lamb was slain, (Rev. 5:12)
His blood was all pour’d out for me. (Isa. 1:18, I Pet. 1:18-19, I Jn. 1:7, Rev. 1:5)

Verse 18
Sprinkle it, Jesu, on my heart! (Heb. 10:22, Heb. 12:24, I Pet. 1:2)
One drop of thy[1] all-cleansing blood (I Jn. 1:7)
Shall make my sinfulness depart, (Heb. 9:14)
And fill me with the life of God.

Verse 19
Father, supply my every need; (Phil. 4:19)
Sustain the life thyself hast[2] given:
Call for the never-failing bread, (Ezek. 36:29)
The manna that comes down from heaven. (Ex. 16:4, John 6:31-33)

Verse 20
The gracious fruits[3] of righteousness, (Ezek. 36:30, Phil. 1:11, James 3:18)
Thy blessings unexhausted store
In me abundantly increase,
Nor let me ever hunger more. (Ezek. 36:30, John 6:35)

Verse 21
Let me no more in deep complaint
“My leanness, O my leanness,” cry, (Isa. 24:16)
Alone consum’d with pining want
Of all my Father’s children I! (Luke 15:17)

Verse 22
The painful thirst, the fond desire, (John 4:14)
Thy joyous presence shall remove, (Rev. 7:16-17, Ps. 16:11)
While my full soul doth still require
Thy whole eternity of love.

Verse 23
Holy, and true, and righteous Lord, (Rev. 3:7, Rev. 6:10)
I wait to prove thy perfect will, (Rom. 12:2)
Be mindful of thy gracious word,
And stamp me with thy Spirit’s seal. (Eph. 1:13, II Cor. 1:22)

Verse 24
Thy faithful mercies let me find, (Lam. 3:22-23)
In which thou causest me to trust;
Give me the meek and lowly mind, (Matt. 11:29)
And lay my spirit in the dust. (Job 42:6)

Verse 25
Shew me how foul my heart hath been, (Ezek. 36:31, Jer. 17:9, Ps. 51:3)
When all renew’d by grace I am,
When thou hast emptied me of sin,
Shew me the fulness of my shame. (Ezek. 36:31)

Verse 26
Open my faith’s interior eye: (Eph. 1:18)
Display thy glory from above, (II Cor. 4:6)
And all I am shall sink, and die,
Lost in astonishment and love.

Verse 27
Confound, o’erpower me with thy grace! (Ezek. 36:32)
I would be by myself abhor’d, (Job 42:6, Rom. 7:24)
(All might, all majesty, all praise,
All glory be to Christ my Lord!) (Rev. 5:12-13)

Verse 28
Now let me gain perfection’s height! (Matt. 5:48, Heb. 12:23)
Now let me into nothing fall! (Phil. 3:8)
Be less than nothing in thy sight,
And feel that Christ is all in all. (Col. 3:11, I Cor. 15:28)
