Verse 1
O God most merciful and true,
Thy nature to my soul impart,
’Stablish with me the covenant new, (Ezek. 16:62, Jer. 31:33-34, Heb. 8:8-12)
And write perfection on my heart, (Jer. 31:33-34, Heb. 8:8-12, Heb. 10:16)
To real holiness restor’d
O let me gain my Saviour’s mind, (Gal. 2:5, Phil. 2:5)
And in the knowledge of my Lord
Fulness of life eternal find. (John 17:3)
Verse 2
Remember, Lord, my sins no more, (Jer. 31:33-34, Heb. 8:8-12, Heb. 10:17)
That them I may no more forget,
But sunk in guiltless shame adore,
In speechless wonder at thy feet:
O’erwhelm’d with thy stupendous grace
I shall not in thy presence move,
But breathe unutterable praise,
And rapturous awe, and silent love.
Verse 3
Then every murmuring thought and vain
Expires, in sweet confusion lost,
I cannot of my cross complain,
I cannot of my goodness boast;
Pardon’d for all that I have done (Jer. 31:34, Heb. 8:12, Heb. 10:17)
My mouth as in the dust I hide, (Ezek. 16:63, Job 42:6)
And glory give to God alone,
My God forever pacified.
