Slow of speech, and slower still

Verse 1
Slow of speech, and slower still
Of heart alas, am I,
Cannot utter what I feel,
Or speak to the Most-high:
But I to my Brother look
Mighty both in word and deed:
He my cause hath undertook,
And lives for me to plead.

Verse 2
Jesus is my true High-priest,
Who doth in heaven appear,
Him presenting my request
The Father loves to hear:
Jesus, (if his wrath arise,
And justice on the sinner frown,)
Jesus speaks, and pacifies,
And prays his anger down.

Verse 3
Jesus is a mouth to me,
Expressing all my wants:
God is vanquish’d by his plea,
And every blessing grants:
O how eloquent the blood
Which echoing from the throne divine,
Tells me, I am dear to God,
And all He is, is mine.
