Verse 1
Soldiers of Christ, arise, (II Tim. 2:3)
And put your armour on, (Eph. 6:11)

Thro’ his eternal Son;
Strong in the Lord of hosts, (Ps. 46:7, Is. 8:13)
And in his mighty power, (Eph. 6:10)
Who in the strength of Jesus trusts
Is more than conqueror. (Rom. 8:37)
Verse 2
Stand then in his great might, (Eph. 6:13)
With all his strength endu’d,
And take, to arm you for the fight,
The panoply of God; (Eph. 6:11)
That having all things done,
And all your conflicts past,
Ye may o’ercome thro’ Christ alone, (Phil. 4:13, I Cor. 15:57, Rev. 12:11, I John 5:4-5)
And stand entire at last. (James 1:4)
Verse 3
Stand then against your foes, (Eph. 6:11)
In close and firm array,
Legions of wily fiends oppose (Luke 8:30)
Throughout the evil day; (Eph. 6:12)
But meet the sons of night,
But mock their vain design,
Arm’d in the arms of heavenly light (Rom. 13:12, I Thess. 5:8)
In[1] righteousness divine. (Eph. 6:14, II Cor. 6:7)

Leave no unguarded place,
No weakness of the soul,
Take every virtue, every grace, (II Pet. 1:5-7)

Indissolubly join’d,
To battle all proceed,
But arm yourselves with all the mind (I Pet. 1:13)
That was in Christ your head. (Phil. 2:5, I Pet. 4:1)
Verse 5
Let truth the girdle be
That binds your armour on, (Eph. 6:11)

Ready his will to do, (Ps. 40:8)

His glory to pursue:
Ruin is spread beneath,
The gospel greaves put on,
And safe thro’ all the snares of death (II Sam. 22:6, Ps. 18:15, Prov. 13:14, Prov. 14:27)
To life eternal run. (Heb. 12:1)

On FAITH’S victorious shield, (Eph. 6:16)

Satan shall be subdu’d,
Repell’d his ev’ry fiery dart, (Eph. 6:16)
And quench’d with Jesu’s blood. (Rev. 12:11)

Jesus hath died for you!
What can his love withstand? (Rom. 8:35-39)

Hither, he saith, come up! (Rev. 4:1)
The helmet of salvation take, (Eph. 6:17, I Thess. 5:8, Isa. 59:17)
The confidence of hope: (Heb. 6:19)
Hope for his perfect love,
Hope for his people’s rest, (Matt. 11:28-29, Heb. 4:1-11)
Hope to sit down with Christ above
And share the marriage feast. (Rev. 19:7-9)
Verse 10
Brandish in faith ’till then
The Spirit’s two-edg’d sword, (Eph. 6:17, Heb. 4:12)
Hew all the snares of fiends and men (II Cor. 10:4-5)
In pieces with the word;
’TIS WRITTEN; this applied (Matt. 4:4, Matt. 4:7, Matt. 4:10, Luke 4:4, Luke 4:8, Luke 4:10)
Baffles their strength and art;
Spirit and soul with this divide, (Heb. 4:12)
And joints and marrow part. (Heb. 4:12)
Verse 11
To keep your armour bright
Attend with constant care,
Still walking in your Captain’s sight,
And watching unto prayer; (Eph. 6:18, Matt. 26:41, Mark 13:33, Mark 14:38)

(Your Captain gives the word)
His summons chearfully obey,
And call upon the Lord;
To God your every want (Phil. 4:6)
In instant prayer display,
Pray always; pray, and never faint, (Luke 18:1)
Pray, without ceasing pray. (I Thess. 5:17, Eph. 6:18, Ps. 55:17)
Verse 13
In fellowship; alone
To God with faith draw near, (Heb. 10:22)
Approach his courts, besiege his throne (Heb. 4:16)

Go to his temple, go,
Nor from his table[3] move;
Let every house his worship know, (Acts 2:46)
And every heart his love.

To God your spirits dart,
Your souls in words declare,
Or groan, to him who reads the heart, (Rom. 8:26)

In shouts, or silent awe adore (Hab. 2:20)
His miracles of grace.

And takes the conqu’rors home.
