The’ original of evil see

Th’ original of evil see,
Of all deceit and wickedness!
Satan, the homicide is he,
Deceiver of our helpless race:
To plunge us in eternal woe
He preaches still his ancient lie,
“Sin on; and if to hell ye go,
[“]Ye shall not there forever die.”

Hymnal/Album: Originally titled: “‘He is a liar, and the father of it.’—[John 8,] v. 44." This hymn appears in the 1763-64 manuscript “MS John.” This manuscript is part of the collection of the Methodist Archive and Research Centre in The John Rylands Library, The University of Manchester (accession number MA 1977/573, Charles Wesley Notebooks Box 3).
