The world and their infernal god

The world and their infernal god
Have rul’d us with an iron rod,
And long our slavish souls have been
Gaul’d by the rigorous yoke of sin:
Yet drudging on with abject fear
We serv’d our haughty lords severe,
And hardly daring to complain,
We kiss’d the rod, and hugg’d the chain.
