Thy people, Lord, if Thou command

Thy people, Lord, if thou command,
Are tolerated by thy foe:
We sacrifice, or in the land,
Or to the fields and desarts go:
This liberty to serve our God
With faith unfeign’d, and conscience pure,
By providential love bestow’d,
Let it from age to age indure.

Hymnal/Album: Originally titled “Pharaoh said, Go ye sacrifice to your God in the land.”—[Exod.] viii. 25. Introduced in Charles Wesley, Short Hymns on Select Passages of the Holy Scriptures, Vol. 1 (Bristol: Farley, 1762).
